Invitation to Support World Relief SoCal

May 15, 2025

Dear Saints,

I invite you to visit my personal “Stand in the Gap” fundraising page for World Relief SoCal and consider supporting our “Welcoming the Stranger” work in partnership with the Church in San Diego County!

To participate, visit https://fundraise.worldrelief.org/fundraiser/6378661?is_new=true

My goal is to raise $1,000 toward our WRSoCal $10,000 goal. Thank you!
Here’s what I wrote for my story on the page:

Thank you for joining World Relief’s mission, stepping into the world’s greatest crises with boldness and compassion. In partnership with the church, we have walked alongside refugees and immigrants—creating communities of welcome where families rebuild their lives with dignity and hope. As a result, our new neighbors are becoming our co-workers, students, church members, and friends.

My name is Grant Van Leuven, and as a bi-vocational pastor (see www.puritanchurch.com), I have had the privilege to be working for World Relief SoCal’s San Diego Office as Site Manager since December of 2024, and am thankful for how committed we are to continuing to serve our refugee and immigrant neighbors.  It is special to my heart as my wife, Fernanda, is from Brazil and over the last seven years of our marriage we walked through getting her green card, citizenship, and voting registration (she just joined me voting last November!), not knowing the Lord would have me working at World Relief!

In particular, your support helps our San Diego County office of World Relief Southern California in

Please help me support World Relief by making a donation through my page. The process is fast, easy and secure. Thanks so much for your support… and please don’t forget to send this page to any friends you think might be interested in donating!

Here are resources of what I’ve been involved with in recent events and presentations:

Welcoming the Stranger: A Biblical Approach to Refugees & Immigration | World Relief SoCal (My presentation for our office’s SD County Coffee Talk this February with pastors and other church leaders)

Faith, Immigration & The Church: Panel Discussion with Local Leaders | World Relief SoCal (What followed the above by amazing church and community leaders led by our Development Director, Jane Register)

Immigration and Scripture – YouTube (A playlist on my church’s page with a worship sermon and Sabbath class PowerPoint presentations by me as well as Good Neighbor Team introduction and training presentations by one of my WRSoCal colleagues on a Wednesday night)

A Biblical Exploration of Loving the Stranger | Sermons | Coast Vineyard (My guest preaching as a WR rep for a church partnering with and across the road from our Claremont WR office this April)

I also highly recommend this 8-minute video by our Home Office’s VP of Advocacy and Policy, Matthew Soerens: Immigration: Common Questions Answered [2024 Election Ready]

Thank you for considering!
Blessings,
Pastor Grant
“He … loveth the stranger, in giving him food and raiment. Love ye therefore the stranger: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.” — Deuteronomy 10:18-19. “When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory … Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For … I was a stranger, and ye took me in: And the King shall … say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.” — Matthew 35:31, 34, 35, 40
